Sustainability and Social Responsibility
Since its establishment, Baycan has been working as a company that is sensitive to the environment. It has adopted the principles of green energy and clean environment in all its activities. Our biggest project in this context is the Solar Power Plant (SPP) investment, which we established last year with our own resources to reduce our carbon footprint. By using 40% of the installed capacity of our two businesses, we have implemented the 700 MWh capacity SPP Project as of the new year, and this is how we provide all the electricity needs of our current business (670 MWh usage).
We are among the top 10 companies that take part in solar energy investment of this scale among 804 companies located in Eskişehir Organized Industrial Zone. According to our system reports, we have produced the equivalent of 1623 tree planting, 30 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and 12 tons of coal usage since our project started. The installation and use of solar energy, which is a renewable energy source that does not pollute the environment and does not create harmful waste.
Our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certificate shows that we implement green production processes in our business. Baycan has been certified as Out of Scope by the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. In the next five years we are planning a SPP investment that will meet the energy needs of the two factories (1,800,000 KWh), depending on the 100% commissioning of our second facility. Afterwards, it is considered that our excess capacity will be uploaded to the system and sold. At the same time, we have completed the necessary trainings for the ISO 50001 Energy Management System and are in the process of scheduling the certificate. Finally, we foresee that our company will continue its work without the need for external resources and by fully optimizing its carbon gas emissions.
Social Responsibility Projects
Employment of Individuals with Disabilities
Baycan Elektrik is a company that has adopted equal principles in all its activities since its establishment. Along with our philosophy of ‘Everyone can produce’ and the opportunities provided in our factory, we bring individuals with disabilities into working life within the scope of various social responsibility projects. This holistic approach is a very important part of Baycan culture because our employees are our most valuable asset.
In 2014, Eskişehir Tepebaşı Municipality, Anadolu University, İŞKUR and Eskişehir Organized Industrial Zone (EOSB) established the Handicapped Assembly Workshop, breaking new ground in Turkey. Companies within the Organized Industrial Zone started to deliver assembly work to the second Workshop which opened in 2019. In the same year, as Baycan Elektrik, we employed 6 young people who received training in these workshops. Today, 13 individuals with mental disabilities work in Baycan Elektrik within the scope of this project. Together with these individuals we employ a total of 29 personnel with disabilities who are actively working in our enterprise. Some of them have worked with us for 10 years. We are happy to be with them. Our work with disabled individuals is not limited to our business. In this sense, we continue to support various institutions and organizations that carry out social responsibility projects. For example, we have been carrying out cable grouping activities since December 2022, outside our factory area, with individuals with mental disabilities and Alzheimer’s at the Barrier-Free Life Workshop established by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality.
Production and Skills Focused Women's Social Development Workshop
In January 2023, Baycan Elektrik became the first company to implement the Production and Skills-Focused Women’s Social Development Workshop Project, organized by the Eskişehir Organized Industrial Zone Directorate (with the participation of the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services and İŞKUR) under the Social Development Support Program (SOGEP) conducted by the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey.
The project aims to empower economically and socially disadvantaged women to gain employment. As of February, five of our employees have completed theoretical and practical on-the-job training at the Organized Industrial Zone and Baycan. Providing these individuals with opportunities, introducing them to the manufacturing sector, and playing a role in their integration into social life is a source of pride for Baycan Elektrik.
