Baycan Elektrik carries out a wide range of social responsibility projects, from vocational training to women’s employment, from employment of the disabled to university-industry business and collaboration.

Stating that 5 female employees have joined the Baycan Family so far within the scope of the ‘Production and Skills Focused Women’s Social Development Workshop’ project, Baycan Electricity General Manager Engin Yılmaz said, “We will employ 15 more people in the coming months. We have been providing cable and electrical electronic component bundling services for over 50 years. Since our job requires manual dexterity, detail and fast coordination, we observed that working with women increased our productivity. “The careful and patient work of women matches exactly with the finesse and criticality level of our process,” he said.

Baycan Elektrik, which has a deep-rooted 56-year history in the cable bundling industry, continues to demonstrate its difference with its social responsibility projects that respond to social needs and prioritize social benefit. The social responsibility project focused on the participation of disabled individuals in the workforce, which has been carried out jointly with Eskişehir Tepebaşı Municipality Assembly Workshop since 2019, started with 6 young people who received training in the workshops. Now 25 disabled individuals work at Baycan Elektrik.

UNBARRIED LIFE WORKSHOP

Disabled employees continue their lives as more productive and social individuals after joining the Baycan Family. Apart from the business, Baycan also comes together with various institutions and organizations that carry out social responsibility projects for disabled individuals in various projects. For example, a grouping study has been carried out outside the factory area with mentally disabled and Alzheimer’s individuals in the Barrier-Free Life Workshop established by Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality since December 2022. Emphasizing that their vision is to train competent human resources in the industry, Baycan Electric General Manager Engin Yılmaz said that Baycan Electric Family will continue to undertake projects that support the development of Turkey.

Stating that they wholeheartedly believed in this project, which aims to train qualified female personnel, Yılmaz said, “Within the scope of the project, our first personnel started working with us in February 2023. We provide social and economic support to the women who start working with us in our business in order to integrate them into society as active and productive individuals. “We believe that the project is of value that can be an example not only in Eskişehir or Turkey, but also to the world,” he said.

80% OF EMPLOYEES ARE WOMEN

Stating that the aim of the project is to offer equal economic opportunities to women who are disadvantaged in society and to help them gain a profession, Yılmaz gave the following information:

“According to TÜİK data, the rate of women working in the industrial sector in Turkey in January 2023 is 34.4%. The Directorate of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security reported the employment rate of women over the age of 15 in Turkey as 31.7% in January 2023. 760 of Baycan Elektrik’s approximately 950 personnel, that is, 80%, are female employees. “We will move towards balancing the inequalities that are in the common consciousness of society by continuing to take concrete steps for women’s employment in Turkey.”

WOMEN WORK CAREFULLY AND PATIENTLY

Stating that 5 female employees have joined the Baycan Family so far with the “Production and Skills Focused Women’s Social Development Workshop” project, Yılmaz said, “We plan to employ 15 more people after the first phase of the project is completed in the coming months. Our women working with us within the scope of the project will earn their own income. They will have the chance to get to know the production sector and improve their professional skills with comprehensive technical training. Our company has been providing cable and electrical and electronic component grouping services for more than 50 years. Since our job requires dexterity, detail and fast coordination, we have observed over time that working with women increases our productivity. Their careful and patient work perfectly matches the refinement and criticality of our process. The majority of our female employees have brought about gains such as the development of an innovative culture, good governance and sustainability with the combination of different perspectives and experiences. As Baycan Elektrik, we have continued to be an example in women’s employment not only in production but also in all sectors for years.” she said. Explaining that Baycan Elektrik attaches importance to professional qualification training, Yılmaz said, “They take the exam after receiving training from our master instructors in the electrical installations and panel monitoring, industrial maintenance and repair and machine maintenance and repair departments that are suitable for the work carried out in our business. Currently, 254 of our employees will take the practical exam to receive their certificates this month. Then 80 more people will join the program. “With these projects we carry out for our employees who are professionally inadequate and have low education levels, we increase their education levels by providing them with technical qualifications.” she said.
